About Namespinner

Why we created Namespinner

We built Namespinner because we were frustrated with the same problems you might have run into: name pickers that required signup, tools that felt unfair or opaque, and sites that were cluttered with ads or didn't work offline. We wanted a single, simple tool that anyone could use—teachers, event organizers, parents, and teams—without creating an account or wondering if the result was really random.

Our story

The idea started in real situations: picking a student in class without playing favorites, running a small giveaway fairly, or deciding who goes first in a game without the usual arguments. We looked for a free tool that was transparent (everyone could see the spin), truly random (no hidden bias), and respectful of privacy (no need to hand over your list to a server). When we couldn't find one that ticked all the boxes, we built it ourselves.

Who it's for

Namespinner is for anyone who needs a fair, visible way to pick at random: teachers calling on students, coaches splitting teams, organizers running raffles, friends choosing who picks the movie, or teams deciding who presents first. We keep it free and ad-light so it stays useful in schools and at home.

Our goal

We want Namespinner to stay free, fair, and simple. That means using cryptographic randomness so every spin is genuinely unpredictable, storing your data only in your browser so we never see your names or lists, and avoiding signup walls and aggressive ads. If you have feedback or ideas, we'd love to hear from you.
